About Madison Central Bands

The Madison Central High School Band Program has developed a tradition of musical and performance excellence in the years since the school opening in 1954. The band program has been, and still is, a “work in progress” – ever evolving in scope and size. Under its current structure, the bands in northern Madison County consist of three middle school programs and one high school program that serve nearly 1,000 students. The high school program consists of 4 concert band classes (new for the 2020-21 school year) that meet daily and focus solely on concert literature.

The concert bands at Madison Central have long been a driving force in the music program. These bands have received top ratings at every Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) District and State Assessment since 1994. Universally recognized as one of the most comprehensive band programs in the state of Kentucky, they have been selected for six featured performances at the KMEA state conference. In 2006, the Madison Central Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. Additionally, the Percussion Ensemble and Chamber Music Program have both been featured at the state conference. Madison Central’s band program also has produced an abundance of All-Regional and All-State musicians as well as members of the Honor Band of America in each of the last five years. Additionally, Madison Central student musicians have earned scholarships to the finest state and national institutions of higher learning in all fields of study.

The Madison Central Marching Band is a volunteer organization open to band students in 9th-12th grades. The marching band is an extracurricular activity with the rehearsal time held exclusively outside of the school day. The band performs at home football games, in local parades, and participates in local, state, and national marching band competitions. Madison Central’s marching band has a tradition-rich heritage including 23 KMEA State finals appearances and 5 KMEA state championships, as of April 2020. Additionally, the band appeared in the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Along with the work of the staff and students, the program recognizes their parent organization as the strength behind the band. The Madison Central Band Boosters is comprised of hundreds of dedicated and talented adults who work toward a common goal of providing life-changing experiences for their children. The Madison Central bands enjoy rich traditions and great support from parents, school administrators and the community. Each student, instructor, and parent volunteer in the organization understands that they are but temporary stewards of the program and, as such, they must diligently care for what has been entrusted to them.
