Band Camp FAQ
Everything your family needs to know before the season begins.
What to Expect
Where the Season Begins.
Band Camp is three weeks of hard work, music, and memories that form the foundation of everything the marching band does. Students learn the show music, drill fundamentals, and — most importantly — each other. Attendance is mandatory. Come ready to work, and you'll leave with a family.
Frequently Asked Questions
Band Camp FAQ
  • Band Camp 2025 is the last three weeks of July.

    • Week 1 (7/14–7/18): 9am – 4pm
    • Week 2 (7/20–7/24): 9am – 9pm
    • Week 3 (7/26–8/1): 9am – 9pm

*Color Guard has a slightly different Week 1 schedule: Mon, Tue, and Thu are 1pm–8pm. All other days follow the main schedule.

  • Band Camp is held in the parking lot across 2nd Street near Daniel Boone Elementary. Drop-off and pickup is at the Band Practice Lot — more commonly referred to as the "Purple Lot" — you can loop through the Daniel Boone Elementary parking lot.

  • The better prepared you are, the more fun you'll have. Here's how to show up ready:

    • Dust off your instrument — play a little each day so your chops aren't in shock on day one
    • Start drinking water now — staying hydrated before camp makes a big difference
    • Break in your shoes — your feet will thank you
    • Spend some time outside — your body will adjust to the heat better if it's not a surprise
    • Take some walks — even short walks help build endurance for long rehearsal blocks
    • Eat a good breakfast — protein, not just Pop-Tarts
    • Get some sleep — camp is way easier when you're not running on empty
  • Band Camp will be very hot. Pack accordingly:

    • Insulated water jug (half-gallon or gallon)
    • Sunscreen (listed twice — it's that important)
    • Cooling towel (e.g. Frog Tog)
    • Hat and sunglasses
    • Instrument with plenty of reeds and supplies
    • Nutritious snacks
    • Deodorant
    • Comfortable athletic shoes with support
    • A positive attitude
  • During Weeks 2 and 3, dinner is provided on evening rehearsal days. Parents are welcome to bring food, but students will have made plenty of new friends by then — don't be surprised if they wave you off!

  • A half-gallon or full-gallon insulated jug is your best friend at camp. A small water bottle won't cut it — you'll be outside, moving, and sweating all day. Refill stations will be available at each break. Stay ahead of dehydration.

  • No worries — that's exactly what band camp is for. We'll teach you everything step by step. About a quarter of the band has never marched before. You're not alone, and you'll be surprised how fast it clicks.

  • We adjust. If it's dangerously hot or stormy, rehearsals move indoors or the schedule is modified. Your safety always comes first.

  • It's definitely work, but we go at a pace that helps everyone learn. It gets easier every day, and by the end you'll be surprised how far you've come. The nerves always fade fast once you're in it.

  • Wear comfortable athletic shoes with good support. You'll be on your feet for long blocks of time on pavement and turf. Break them in before camp starts — blisters on day one are no fun.

  • Staff and parent volunteers are present throughout camp. If a student feels unwell or gets injured, they'll be taken care of immediately. When in doubt, speak up — don't try to push through something serious.

  • Attendance is mandatory. Every absence leaves a gap in drill formations that affects everyone around you. If you have a conflict, submit an Absence Request Form at least one week in advance for director approval.

Excused absences: Death in the immediate family, serious illness or injury (doctor's note required), other issues handled individually.

Unexcused absences include: Medical/dental appointments, homework, concerts, sporting events, birthdays, work, senior pictures, vacations, or no ride. Schedule these around band dates.

    • 1st offense: Loss of privilege to perform in the next competition
    • 2nd offense: Dismissal from the program

We take this seriously because every single person on that field matters to the whole.
